Portugal Counts On Ronaldo

Chelsea and Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles insists that Paulo Bento`s team can go all the way at Euro 2012, as long as Cristiano Ronaldo can replicate the blistering form that he showed against Netherlands.

Ronaldo, who missed a glut of chances in the Seleccao`s 3-2 win against Denmark, found his shooting boots against Oranje to set up a quarter-final clash with Czech Republic on Thursday.

"We`re all aware of the great player we have in our national team, in my opinion no less than the best player in the world," Meireles told reporters.

"Everybody wants him to help, that was just what happened against Netherlands and fortunately he scored."

Meireles was an integral part of Roberto Di Matteo`s Chelsea team that stunned Europe to clinch the Champions League against Bayern Munich, and although he may be an unsung hero of the national team, the 29-year-old is hoping he can transfer his club success to the international stage.

"Nobody regarded us as favourites before the tournament," he added.

"Just as nobody regarded Chelsea as favourites in the Champions League. It will be very difficult, but it`s our dream, just as it`s the dream of all Portuguese people."

Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech was one of the heroes at the Allianz Arena, and his Stamford Bridge team-mate is wary of the presence that he brings to Michal Bilek`s side.

"I know Petr [Cech] very well," Meireles added.

"But I`ve not spoken to him. He`s very strong mentally, he`s one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and he has proved that."
"The feeling I have is that they`ll come with the desire to win.

"After losing the first game heavily, they responded very well to finish top of their group."

The game in Warsaw kicks off at 20:45CET.

Apple Promises an Update Next Year

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook emailed one of his customers on Monday and promised that the tech giant has big plans for its Mac Pro line of computers in 2013.
The email from Cook followed the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote in which Apple neglected to mention the Mac Pro line despite labeling it with a "NEW" tag on its website and giving it a minor update that included improved processors.
To appease concerned Mac Pro loyalists who yearn to see their computer given a significant update after waiting since 2010, Cook said in the email that Apple's Mac Pro customers are very important to the company and will be taken care of next year.
"Although we didn't have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today's event, don't worry as we're working on something really great for later next year," the Apple CEO said in an email that was confirmed authentic by Apple's public relations team to Macworld.
Afterward, the email was reposted in a Facebook group called "We Want a New Mac Pro" that launched last month and has more than 18,000 "likes." Although all of the new MacBooks announced yesterday were given new USB 3.0 ports and Thunderbolt ports, users of the Mac Pro line were left disappointed. That led many of the users in the Facebook group to post comments expressing their dissatisfaction with Monday's minor update to the Mac Pro line.
New Mac Book Pro Retina

"This is actually worse than nothing to me," one user said in the group. "It's like a smack in the face." And perhaps as a response to the traction the group is gaining, Apple has removed the "NEW" label that previously hovered above the Mac Pro on its website following the 2012 WWDC keynote. That change happened today despite Cook mentioning Monday's minor update to the Mac Pro line in his email.
So although Cook has gone out of his way to personally comfort Mac Pro customers that their time will come, the next Mac Pro update is a ways away. So far away that Cook practically advised the Apple customer to go ahead and get the new MacBook Pro with a Retina display in the meantime.
"We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros," he says in the email.

The secret of Twitter's New Logo

Wednesday, and for the third time, twitter change their logo. With a simple razor blade, crest Larry shaved by Doug Bowman, and his wings cut out one piece, tail also clipped the owner, perhaps not so easily escape. Larry now looks more "arrogant", puffing out his chest. But Bowman said, a little puffed up and mean Larry is now widely argued, also in groups with other birds to reach their goals. Bowman also said, "This design consists of a simple geometry, only made of three sets of overlapping circles."

Uh?  "simple" isn't it? Only three circles? Where the circle?

But it is true. Larry's new style is really simple. But that seems not only the three circles. Because the new logo is a blend of dozens of circles. This is a development of engineering drawing techniques tangency. If tangency might just make a line of two or more circles that touch one point of each circle, Larry's hit circle with another circle, continue to remove some of the circle.

Wrote a simple look right? But the twitter logo is "not serious" like it was worth between 72 million until 180 million dollars!

RIP Ray Bradbury: From Fiction to Reality

As many news agents broadcasted, one of the greatest science fiction author, Ray Bradbury, died last night at age 91.  Bradbury anticipated iPods, interactive television, electronic surveillance and live, sensational media events, including televised police pursuits - and not necessarily as good things. The science fiction-fantasy master spent his life conjuring such visions from his childhood dreams and Cold War fears, spinning tales of telepathic Martians, lovesick sea monsters and, in uncanny detail, the high-tech, book-burning future of "Fahrenheit 451."  His prolific nature was slowed in recent years by a stroke that meant he had to use a wheelchair. But he remained active over the years, turning out new novels, plays, screenplays and a volume of poetry. Just this week he wrote in The New Yorker about discovering science fiction when he was 7 or 8 years old. - The Associated Press. Read his Variety obit too.

Wise, wicked and wonderful — that's how author Ray Bradbury began an early chapter of The Martian Chronicles, his work of space-age paranoia and lyrical wonder that made science fiction respectable in the 1950s.

Bradbury, whose death at 91 was disclosed by his daughter in Los Angeles, was an American original in the storytelling tradition of Hawthorne, Hemingway and Edgar Allan Poe.

Both quiet poet and reluctant prophet, Bradbury had a writing style that was a cascade of imagery and simple truths: Government was the enemy of creativity (Fahrenheit 451), the dark was always to be feared (The October Country), robots were not our friends (I Sing the Body Electric!), and clowns, carnivals and sideshows were the scariest things of all (Something Wicked This Way Comes).

In 1956, famed director John Huston asked Bradbury to adapt Moby-Dick for film. When the young and untested Bradbury asked, "Why me? After all, I mainly write for pulp magazines," Huston replied, "It was that story of yours about the dinosaur and the lighthouse. I thought I smelled the ghost of Melville."

Wary of technology — he famously refused to drive a car or fly — Bradbury nonetheless had a "cockeyed optimism" about the future, even if Martians were secretly trying to subvert landings there, or his fascist firemen in Fahrenheit 451 were nervously burning all books and the fanciful characters within.

"I didn't write Fahrenheit 451 to predict the future," Bradbury once said. "I wrote it to prevent the future."

Stewart Critizes Scott Walker

Meanwhile on Daily Show as reported by Huffington Post, Stewart Critizes Scott Walker
Back in March, first-term Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was ordered a recall election by the Government Accountability Board, and came out victorious in Tuesday's vote.

But the tense political climate made for some creative punditry on the part of the news organizations covering the re-vote.

So on Tuesday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart took a minute to point out how bizarre everyone's coverage was.

First, there was the Gretchen Carlson "Fox and Friends" interview with a teacher who had recently visited China. In it, both women not-so-subtly danced around the idea that a Democratic win in the election would turn Wisconsin into a borderline Communist state.

"It'll be like Communist China if Walker loses," Stewart joked. "I mean, we'll all be forced to join unions, like in China."

Beyond that, there was some subliminal visual messaging that Stewart and his writers picked up on in the footage from a focus group interview.

We won't spoil anything for you, but let's just say that the suburban mom haircut is a versatile political weapon.

Scott Walker Wins

As reported by Washington Post Wednesday, June 6, 10:46 PM

Republican Scott Walker defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to retain the governorship in a recall election in Wisconsin.  David A. Farenthold and Rachel Weiner reported that Exit polls showed that Democrats had captured nearly 69 percent of the voters who made up their minds in the past few days. But it wasn’t enough.

Gov. Scott Walker survives Wisconsin recall after more than a year of political turmoil: After a brief but bruising campaign that followed a fight over union rights and Wisconsin’s cash-strapped budget, voters in the narrowly divided state cast their ballots Tuesday to retain Gov. Scott Walker.

Instead, the night provided a huge boost for Walker — as well as Republicans in Washington and state capitals who have embraced the same energetic, austere brand of fiscal conservatism as a solution for recession and debt. In a state known for a strong progressive tradition, Walker defended his policies against the full force of the labor movement and the modern left. He won again.

Walker clearly relished his victory, saying, “Tonight we tell Wisconsin, we tell our country and we tell people all across the globe that voters really do want leaders who stand up and make the tough decisions.”

Even with the race ended, the divisions in the state remain. As The Fix reported:

One Barrett supporter slapped the mayor when he conceded, saying he should have waited until all the votes were in. When Barrett said both sides would have to “work together,” he was booed by both his crowd in Milwaukee and the Walker supporters in Waukesha.

“I think Scott is more of a grown-up than I would be if the situation were reversed,” said Lisa Kurth of Waukesha after the speech.

Many Walker supporters were enthusiastic about taking on President Obama next. When Obama was mentioned on the news, the crowd booed loudly.
